Bryant & Stratton College program directors perform both administrative and instructional duties. As administrators, they support the College mission and vision by overseeing the day-to-day management of their program area and are responsible for providing guidance to all subject-area instructors and for ensuring that all required record keeping and reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner. As instructors, they are bound by the job description for Instructional Associates.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee the Medical Assisting Program at the Western New York campuses (Amherst, Buffalo and Southtowns).
  • Serve as contact person for all MA/MAA faculty in the market.
  • Communicate/participate with the designated System Educational Services Department on matters pertaining to the MA program.
  • Coordinate self-study efforts and prepare for AAMA site visit.
  • Ensure compliance with AAMA/CAAHEP standards; guide accreditation proceedings; complete all required reports.
  • Complete all required state, federal, accrediting body, and college reports related to medical assisting.
  • Manage records, equipment, materials, and paperwork related to MA/MAA programs throughout the market.
  • Order equipment for the MA program
  • Oversee the Medical Assisting Advisory Board. Maintain contact with advisory board members and conduct a minimum of two meetings per year for input and feedback on program quality issues, curriculum, competencies, and equipment.
  • Manage the Medical Assisting internship program in conjunction with Career Services.
  • Teaching responsibilities (day/evening) to be determined.
  • Attend all faculty and campus associate meetings.
  • Perform all job functions as listed in the Instructional Associate and Program Director job descriptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge/Systems

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of assigned fields.
  • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process.
  • Participate in Influencer Relations Activities.
  • Organize and monitor subject-specific campus-wide initiatives and activities.
  • Adhere to and uphold all established operational policies and procedures.
  • Establish a calendar and system to ensure the timely and accurate completion and submission of all government and accrediting agency reports. Complete all such reports.

Resource Management

  • Ensure that all subject-area instructors adhere to all required administrative and classroom delivery duties and requirements as outlined in the job description for Instructional Associates.
  • Provide subject-specific training for instructors on an as-needed basis to communicate changes in curriculum, technology, etc.
  • Assist with classroom observations.
    • Participate with the academic manager in the hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of subject-area instructors
    • Safeguard subject-area materials, records, and equipment.
    • Intervene in and work to solve any personnel issues which arise among the subject-area instructors.


  • Ensure through evaluation and observation that all subject-area instructors present accurate and contemporary course materials in accordance with established syllabi and course outcomes.
  • Ensure that all subject-area instructors utilize appropriate technology to achieve course goals and objectives.
  • Review all lessons, assessments and evaluation tools created by subject-area instructors to ensure students mastery of technical and critical skills are being accurately assessed through methodologies which address the needs of a variety of learning styles.
  • Provide recommendations to the management team vis--vis the upkeep and purchase of subject-specific hardware and software.

Interpersonal Communication

  • Work with the Registrar and Dean of Instruction to establish a master schedule of classes each semester.
    • Provide advisement services (scheduling, registration, program review, guidance on tutoring services, etc.) to medical assisting students in a courteous, professional, and positive manner.
    • Prepare medical assisting student schedules.
    • Utilize intervention strategies to assist students in achieving maximum benefit from their educational experience.
    • Provide training and development guidance to subject-area instructors to aid in their continuous improvement and growth.
    • Participate as required as a member of the academic and/or campus management team(s).
    • Accept additional related duties as assigned by the academic manager.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

Program directors are bound by all tenets of Knowledge, Skills, and Experience outlined in the Instructional Associate Job Description.

In addition they will meet the following criteria:

  • Master's degree in Allied Health field required. Current certification (CMA) strongly preferred.
  • Management skills with emphasis on time management, problem solving, conflict management, cultural diversity, adaptability, and creativity.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The proven ability to function as a member of a team within established college, state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations, policies and procedures.
