Position Title: Network Consulting Engineer Optical Networks Entity: Glow Networks Classification: Non-exempt Location: Dallas, TX Reports To: Project Manager Working Hours: 8 5, M F; may be required to work other shifts to meet customer needs Summary / Objective: The Network Consulting Engineer - Optical Networks (NCE) will act as a SME on Cisco solutions for both optical and IP Networking for Service Provider networks. The NCE will provide optical and IP Network for support various regions, define and provide technical oversight of MOP s, develop project plans and lead network upgrades and new implementations on behalf of Cisco s clients. The NCE will act as a high-level Individual Contributor, to provide Tier 3 Technical applications Center (TAC) support, consult with customers to provide optical network solutions, present solutions along with risks, costs and benefits and, share knowledge with the TAC team. Essential Functions: Provide technical assistance and service support to Cisco optical networking customers as they evolve from early stage product trials through field implementation and into production Support long-haul, regional and metro carrier s domestic and international customers Use knowledge of MPLS, BGP and OSPF to support IP Networks and optical interfaces Develop architecture & design Service Provider network solutions using ASR 9K Design and use test plans using IOS XR commands to configure and integrate network elements on Carrier grade IP Networking equipment Manage aspects of the customer s network trial, deployment & post-sales support, which includes fault tracking, managing and resolving identified issues. Other Functions : The NCE will interface with and manage support partners, develop, implement and manage projects and escalate unresolved issues to Tier 4 support, management and sales account team. The NCE will provide high-level technical support to key DWDM customers Create customer-specific test plans for optical network solutions Resolve customer-identified problems, participate in customer meetings, communicate progress clearly with upstream organizations Develop written technical documentation on the deploying Cisco optical network equipment Use Python, Network Automation and Virtualization programming skills to upgrade and automate customer networks Work Environment/Physical Demands: On-site work may be performed in a technical office environment; visits to data center, telephone Central Office or, other telecommunications facility may be required Travel, up to 35% may be required Extensive and intricate work with a computer to resolve complex network issues Extensive use of computerized software tools and programs, scripting and de-bugging Prolonged sitting in an office chair Required Education/Experience and Competencies: BSEE/CS combined with 8 years of related experience or MSEE/CS combined with 6 years of related experience Cisco IP certification desired; CCIE level certification is preferred Hands on experience with customer deployment and troubleshooting of optical networks and test equipment, especially with Cisco optical solutions Solid understanding of Optical Networking, to include Network Design, Fiber link characterization studies, Rahman Amplifier and EDFA amplifier techniques Solid understanding of IP Networking, to include IOS XR, MPLS, BGP and, OSPF in Service Provider Networks Network Architecture and design principles including SONET, DWDM, CWDM, G.709 digital wrapper and, Mesh Topologies Good understanding of TL1 commands, TL1 DAT and CLI Unix operating system, scripting Excellent communication skills Self-starter, proactive and must be able to handle multiple tasks EEO Statement: CSS Corp. provides equal opportunity in all of our employment practices to all qualified employees and applicants without regard race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability or genetic information and other characteristics that are protected by applicable law.
